How Long Does A Root Canal Procedure and Recovery Take?
As the last resort for you to save up the tooth from extraction, treatment is done called a Root canal. Whenever the patient has excruciating pain which has its origin in the pulp chamber of the root canal then it has to be done.
What is the root canal procedure?
Step 1- After numbing the area around the affected tooth, your dentist will stretch a sheet of rubber around the tooth. The rubber dam is secured in place by a small clamp that grasps the tooth. Its purpose is to keep the tooth and the surrounding area free of saliva during your procedure. The purpose of the root canal procedure is to clean bacteria out, not introduce more.
Step 2- Your emergency dentistry will then drill a hole into the top or the back of the tooth to provide access to the pulp chamber that's located in the tooth's interior. For a tooth located toward the rear of the mouth, the hole is drilled on the top surface of the tooth, but for a front tooth, the access hole is drilled on the back surface.
Step 3- The next step involves cleaning out the tooth's pulp chamber to remove the pulp and nerve tissue along with any bacteria, their toxins, and any remaining debris. The root canals themselves are measured after a portion of the tooth's pulp has been removed. Without accurate measurements, the canal cannot be cleaned or filled thoroughly, and if the area becomes re-infected, the entire procedure will need to be repeated.
Step 4- Your dentist will use a set of small devices known as "root canal files" during your root canal procedure. These tiny files resemble straight pins but have rough surfaces instead of smooth ones. Each root canal file in the set has a slightly larger diameter than its predecessor.
Step 5- After the files have done their job of removing most of the pulp, the remaining pulp and any debris are flushed out by irrigating the canals with an antiseptic solution. The empty canals are then filled with gutta-percha and a temporary filling is put in place. Once your dentist is sure there's no sign of infection he or she will add a dental crown or a permanent filling.
- Tooth condition-this actually plays an essential role in knowing the healing time. If your tooth was carious and had its periapical abscess, there are some changes in which the recovery time will surely increase.
- Dentist expertise-the way in which the root canal treatmentwas done will also influence the time of your recovery. When the procedure is thoroughly done, ensuring the removal of the diseased portion of the pulp.
- Aftercare-right after the procedure, there are essential methods that you should do when you are in the Root Canal Recoveryperiod. You should not eat from the side of the treated tooth for about an hour. This could easily break up and might cause you unbearable pain in the future.
Cost of root canal
Not including fees for the eventual crown or permanent filling, root canal cost starts from $400 to $600 for a front tooth and from $500 to $800 for a molar, depending on the dentist and the complexity of the specific procedure.
